350 foot long pedestrian bridge over the Reedy River in Greenville, SC. The single suspension cable carries a highly curved deck to which the hanger cables are attached on only one side. The resulting torsion is countered by a ring cable which follows the deck curvature and is located below the deck. A detailed explanation of the structural behavior of the bridge can be found here.

This bridge received several awards:

  • 2005 Bridge Prize for Special Purpose Bridges, NSBA
  • 2005 Arthur G. Hayden Medal, IBC
  • 2005 International Footbridge Award for Aesthetics, Medium Span
  • 2006 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Merit Award, ASCE
